Welcome to the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of ACFE

Welcome to the Metropolitan DC Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' website.  We appreciate your interest in our chapter, which consists of anti-fraud professionals from a variety of backgrounds and expertise.  As a profession, we have a responsibility to stay current with new schemes, scams and trends, and to educate our members and community on fraud detection, investigation, and deterrence.

We are an all volunteer Chapter, and so our success in staying current and educating our members and community depends entirely on the involvement of our members.

We encourage those of you involved in fraud detection, investigation and deterrence to attain the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential, which is recognized by many Federal and State agencies, including the FBI and SEC, as a “critical skill set.”   Once you achieve this professional designation, you need to continue with your training to stay current with trends and techniques - to paraphrase a mentor of mine, achieving the CFE designation doesn't make you a Fraud Examiner, it enables you to become a Fraud Examiner.

To further your training, consider attending our Chapter sponsored training events.  We aim to provide interesting speakers to educate us on trends, lessons learned and investigative techniques from “real-life” fraud investigations from several perspectives.  We also provide members ample opportunity for networking. In addition, just as important, we aim to educate the community on general fraud awareness and specific fraud disciplines. We accomplish this by tapping into our Chapter member’s talents and expertise to sponsor and/or participate in presentations to various schools and professional organizations.

Most notably, we organize training events which equip our members with skill sets and/or technological tools to further their knowledge and abilities to combat fraud in our dynamic business environment.  We have successfully organized various events and community outreach programs. These activities included participating in a campus organized speakers bureau series at The University of Maryland, Howard University, and George Washington University.  We additionally presented before the Counsel of Inspectors General for Integrity and Efficency, Department of Transportation and the Department of Defense Inspector General.  In addition, we successfully launched a new and improved Chapter website. Members are now able to receive updated Chapter information, renew their membership and register for events directly online.

As a Chapter, we are moving forward. This year will be very promising and our membership and communities will benefit immensely from the Chapter training events and community outreach programs.  Please send me or other board members, ideas on recent fraud trends you want to communicate to the Chapter, training events you would like the Chapter to sponsor and facilitate, or just general feedback and ideas going forward.

We look forward to a great Chapter year and look forward to seeing you !
