3:00 – 5:00 PM – Green Book: What you need to know

This session provides an overview of the revised GAO Green Book. The session includes discussion on the Green Book’s applicability to governmental organizations (both financial and program managers) and to auditors of those organizations and emphasizes the application of Green Book concepts through practical scenarios and a case study.

Learning Objectives: After completing this session, participants will be able to:

1. Recall fundamental concepts of internal control.
2. Recognize how the Green Book can be used by governmental managers to develop and implement an effective system of internal control and by auditors of governmental organizations as criteria for and causes of findings identified during an audit.
3. Apply Green Book concepts through practical scenarios and a case study.

Presenter: Melinda DeCorte (Sikich LLP)

Melinda DeCorte has 25 years of accounting, auditing and government financial management experience. She directs, manages, and serves in a quality assurance  capacity for financial statement audit engagements conducted in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (GAS). She also has extensive advisory experience for multiple governmental agencies, primarily focusing on internal controls and risk  assessments, financial statement preparation, financial system implementation, and evaluating agencies for audit readiness and compliance with internal control standards and generally accepted accounting principles.

Melinda’s firm leadership roles include serving on the Sikich Executive Board and as the federal government industry vertical leader. She also leads the Sikich federal audit practice.

Ms. DeCorte is an active member of the AGA (formerly known as the Association of

Government Accountants) and she also served on the advisory council to the GAO in updating the Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government. She has authored several articles in the AGA Journal of Government Financial Management and the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Armed Forces Comptroller. A former adjunct professor at the University of Virginia (introductory and intermediate accounting principles), Ms. DeCorte regularly speaks on ethics, audit, and internal control at professional development conferences and training seminars.

Full refunds are available anytime when requested prior to 3 days of the event. No refunds will be made for “No Shows” (a “No Show” is a person who registers for a program but who does not cancel registration or attend the program).  A registered person may elect to transfer the registration to another person at any time. Cancellations can be made only by email at chapter@acfedc.org.  Payments can be electronically made any time prior to the event start. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate "pay at the door" or payment by checks or cash.
